Welcome to SongMakers

Song is at the very humanity of music-making - it is how we convey and express meaning and passion, how we tell stories, and how we understand ourselves and one another.  SongMakers is our platform for all things singing, languages, poetry and verse!

For our first SongMakers weekend in November scores of internationally renowned singers and instrumentalists visited the city to explore singing and song making over the past 500 years.  From bite sized and pop-up performances of under an hour to full length concert collaborations - 1400 audience members and 350 performers immersed themselves in our weekend celebration of the lyric, linguistic, sung and said!

Wonderful performances, Absolutely Thrilling! - Audience member on Bach St John Passion

Phenomenal programme, well delivered, what a wonderful festival! - Audience member on SongMakers

Magnificent singing and playing! - Audience member on Gweneth Ann Rand and Simon Lepper's performance of Harawi

Keep an eye out for more SongMakers events next year.  Information on last year's programme below.
